ChatGPT Prompts for SEO: A Powerful Tool for Better Rankings
A prompt is only as good as the context you give it. The pack below is the set I use on client work, with the brackets already in place so you can drop in your own site, keyword, and city.
What Is Inside the Free Prompt Pack
The prompts are grouped by the job you are doing, so you can jump to the one you need:
- Keyword research, long-tail lists, low-competition finds, question mining, and keyword clusters for a pillar page.
- Content optimization, optimizing an existing post for a target term, meta descriptions, and internal linking suggestions.
- Technical SEO, crawl and indexing checks, structured data, and site structure questions.
- Local SEO, Google Business Profile posts, service area pages, and review replies.
- Link building, prospect research, outreach angles, and anchor text planning.
- Analytics and tracking, reading a Search Console export and turning it into next actions.
- SEO trends and strategy, planning a quarter of work instead of one post.

Who These Prompts Are For
Business owners, marketers and freelancers who already use ChatGPT for SEO and keep getting generic answers back.
If you have never run an SEO campaign, start with the keyword research group. If you have, the analytics and strategy groups are where the time savings are.
Every prompt uses brackets like [Website] or [Keyword]. Replace those with your own details before you run it. Running paid search too? The same treatment exists for ChatGPT prompts for Google Ads.
“I really enjoyed the AI SEO workshop and found it very informative and practical. The presenter explained the concepts clearly and provided actionable insights that small business owners can apply right away.”

Example Prompts You Can Use Right Now
Find long-tail keywords
“I need a detailed list of 10 long-tail keywords for [topic]. For each one, give a rough monthly search volume, whether competition is low, medium, or high, and whether the intent is informational, navigational, or transactional. Then say whether it belongs in a blog post, a landing page, or an FAQ.”
Optimize a post you already have
“I want to optimize a blog post for [keyword]. Give me a step-by-step guide covering keyword placement, readability, title tag and meta description, image alt text, URL structure, and which internal links to add.”
Mine the questions people ask
“Generate 10 to 15 questions people commonly ask about [topic]. Group them by intent, outline how to answer each one, and highlight the keywords inside the questions.”
Build a keyword cluster
“Build keyword clusters around [topic]. Give me one primary keyword for a pillar page, the supporting long-tail terms that become subtopics, and how to link them together.”
Those four are a sample. The full pack has more than 40, and the download includes the longer versions with the output format spelled out.
“very informative and helpful. i learned things i would have never have figured out by myself”

How to Write an SEO Prompt That Works
Give it your context
Name your business, your city, your audience, and what you sell. A prompt with no context returns advice that fits nobody.
Feed it your own data
Paste a Search Console export, your current title tags, or the page copy. The answers get better when the model works from your numbers instead of its training data.
Ask for a format
Say you want a table, a numbered list, or 60 characters. Vague requests come back as essays.
Make it show its work
Ask which claims it is confident about and which need checking. That one line catches most of the invented statistics.
“Brandon and his team really understand SEO and how to get results. They helped optimize our website, build quality backlinks, and improve our Google visibility.”

Where AI Helps and Where It Hurts
AI is good at first drafts, outlines, clustering, and the tedious parts of a technical audit. It is fast at things that would take you an afternoon.
It is bad at facts. Search volumes, prices, dates, and citations come back wrong often enough that every number needs verifying before it goes on a page.
Publishing unedited AI output at scale is also the pattern Google names in its spam policies, so the draft is a starting point, not the deliverable.
If you want the AI search side of this, start with our guide to AI Overviews, then check the page itself with a website audit.
How to Get the 40+ Prompts
Enter your email at the top of this page and the PDF arrives right away. It is free, and there is nothing to install.
Prompts are the fast half of the job. The slow half is checking what the model claims, which is where our 60+ free tools come in.
If you would rather have someone run the work than run the prompts, we do that too. Start with a free website analysis and we will tell you what your site needs first.

Frequently Asked Questions
How to improve SEO with ChatGPT?
To improve SEO with ChatGPT, give it the work that scales badly by hand: clustering keywords, drafting outlines, writing meta descriptions, and turning a Search Console export into a list of fixes. Feed it your own data and one job at a time. Then check every fact it returns, because search volumes, dates, and statistics are where it invents. The prompts in this pack are built that way.
Can ChatGPT generate SEO content?
ChatGPT can generate SEO content, but generating and publishing are two different steps. It writes a competent draft in seconds, and that draft reads like everyone else’s because it comes from the same training data. What makes a page rank is what you add to it: your prices, your process, your photos, your results, and answers to the questions your customers actually ask.
Can ChatGPT do SEO for me?
ChatGPT cannot do SEO for you, because most of the work happens outside a chat window. It cannot crawl your site, see your rankings, publish a page, build a link, or know what a competitor changed last week. It writes, and it analyzes what you paste into it. The strategy, the priorities, and the publishing still need you, or someone with access to your site.
Is SEO dead now with AI?
SEO is not dead, but a click is worth less than it used to be. AI Overviews and chat answers absorb simple questions, so pages that only defined a term have lost that traffic. What still works is what those systems cannot generate: pricing, local detail, first-hand results, and specifics about your own business. Those pages get cited inside AI answers as well as ranked below them.
You Have the Tools. Here Is the System.
These 40 prompts tell ChatGPT what to ask. They do not tell you which one to run first, or how to turn the answer into a page that ranks. That is the gap most people never close.
The ChatGPT SEO Starter Kit is a 1-hour training video, 5 custom GPTs for on-page SEO, blog outlines, keyword clusters, local posts and content writing, a prompt and workflow cheat sheet, and templates that turn an AI answer into a page you can publish.

Who Put This Together
I am Brandon Leibowitz, and I have run SEO Optimizers since 2007. I have been booked on dozens of podcasts as a guest, and I wrote The Power of Guest Podcasting about how to do it as a repeatable system rather than a lucky break. I will sign a copy and mail it to you, and you only cover $8.95 shipping.
AI is very good at the first draft and very bad at knowing whether it is right. It cannot crawl your site, see your rankings, or tell you which of its suggestions is the one worth doing. That judgment is the part we do for clients, and it is what turns a prompt library into results.
